In this thematic area, CDSK intends to create a platform for persons with disabilities to advocate for their rights through the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disability (UNCRPD) and the Persons With Disability Act 2006.
We network with both national and international organizations to raise awareness on concerns related to persons with disabilities.
One of our Advocacy initiatives is the Young Voices project. The Young Voices is a Global Campaign project of the Leonard Cheshire Global Alliance funded by the European Union (EU), which brings together groups of young persons with disabilities from countries across Africa, Asia and America.
The Young Voices Project, is implemented in Makueni, Nairobi,Kisumu and Kajiado. The project targeted youths of ages 13- 25 who advocated for the rights of persons living with disabilities.
The members meet on a monthly basis to discuss the issues that affect their lives, develop their understanding of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD),
Disability Act of 2006 and any other human rights instruments.
CDSK has four homes. Three of the homes focus on children and youths with disabilities and one home focuses on the elderly. We have caregivers and volunteers who take care of the residents while maintaining these homes.
The Homes are :

CDSK focuses on the rehabilitation of children and youths with disabilities through corrective surgeries, different kinds of therapies and provision of various assistive devices. For instance, we work with three reputable mission hospitals in the country to undertake almost 280 corrective surgeries for children and youths with disabilities yearly which mainly include cleft-lips and club foot. At the same time we also offer life skills training to youths with disabilities for economic empowerment.
CDSK implements Child Empowerment Programme [CEP] in partnership with Liliane Fonds[ Netherlands] towards the realization of inclusive education. This is done through a network of local Partner Organisations (POs).In the CEP CDSK has a total of 3,890 (0-25years of age) direct beneficiaries in 46 Counties in Kenya. Child Empowerment Programme (CEP) entails addressing the impairments of children living with disability to functional state and removing the barriers (social, communicative, attitudinal, physical, policy) in the environment to enable them realize their rights and have equal opportunities in life.
